Using a Ride-Share Program? There's something you need to know

Recently we have been hearing more and more about Ride-share programs, or transportation network companies (TNCs). Essentially an independent driver uses the ride-share program to connect with consumers (often done by using a mobile phone app) who are willing to pay a fee to be transported to their destination using the drivers own vehicle.

A recent press release made by Utah's State Insurance Commissioner warns both drivers and passengers of gaps in coverage that arise when using ones personal vehicle for hire. Most personal auto insurance policies have exclusions in place when using your vehicle to transport others either publicly or for hire. The commissioner goes on to recommend that Drivers who drive for these programs should contact their agent or producer to ensure their policy meets their needs and the needs of their passengers.

As always we would be happy to review your existing policies to ensure they meet your needs. Should you have any questions about your coverage please feel free to contact us at 877-506-5061.
